Southern Illinois (15-9, 1-0 MVC) used a five-run fourth inning to create separation as it picked up a 9-1 victory in six innings over Loyola University Chicago (12-10, 0-1 MVC) this afternoon at Charlotte West Stadium in Carbondale, Ill.

How It Happened
Following a scoreless first inning, Loyola struck first when
Peyton De Chant lined a single to plate
Kristin Lea, putting the Ramblers on top, 1-0.Â
Keenan Dolezal worked out of a two-on, no-out jam in the bottom half of the inning to protect the Loyola lead.

Southern Illinois would break though in the bottom half of the third. A fielder's choice tied the game before a passed ball that was followed by a Megan Brown single gave the hosts a 2-1 edge. The Salukis added on in the fourth, pushing across five runs on seven hits to break the game open en route to victory.
