CHICAGO (April 13, 2018) – After closing out the regular season portion of it schedule with a victory earlier in the week, the Loyola University Chicago women's golf team will look to keep momentum rolling as it heads to Newton, Kan. for the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship.
Missouri State will play host to this year's edition of the event at the par-72, 6,108-yard Sand Creek Station Golf Course. Due to adverse weather conditions, the schedule for this year's conference meet has been slightly altered. Opening-round play is slated to begin on Sunday afternoon with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. Monday's second round will get underway with tee times at 10:30 a.m., while final-round action is scheduled to commence at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
Loyola was pegged fifth in a pre-championship poll of the league's head coaches, equaling its highest predicted finish since joining the Valley, as it accumulated 53 points. Bradley (93) collected five first-place votes to narrowly edge out Missouri State (88), who claimed four first-place votes, for the top spot. Northern Iowa (79) claimed the remaining first-place vote to round out the top three.
Second-year head coach
Carly Schneider's lineup will be identical to the one that led Loyola to a victory at the Indiana State Spring Invitational with a team tally of 614 (310-304). That quintet features seniors
Caroline Smith and
Jessie Staed, junior
Elayna Bowser, sophomore
Morgan Brown and freshman
Sabrina Hoskins.
Four members of the Rambler starting five finished in the top 10 in Terre Haute, Ind., highlighted by Brown who carded a 151 (78-73) to earn a share of second place. Bowser (76.5) and Staed (78.4) currently rank first and second, respectively, on the Loyola roster in stroke average, while Hoskins owns the 18-hole team low, set back on Sept. 10 at the Redbird Invitational when she fired a one-under-par 71.
