In Short
Kiley Jones pitched a three-hit shutout to lead Loyola University Chicago (19-18, 5-8 MVC) to a 2-0 victory over UNI (21-18, 6-7 MVC) this afternoon at the UNI Dome. This marks the second straight year that the Ramblers have won the season series from the Panthers after taking two of three games from them in 2017.

How It Happened
Loyola's offense picked up where it left off in game two yesterday, striking first to provide Jones with some support before she stepped foot in the circle. Shannon McGee coaxed a walk from Panthers starter Brooke Craig to get things moving and Katie Polaski followed with an infield single to give the Ramblers runners at first and second.

That brought up Katie Kasubke, who punched a single through the left side to bring home McGee, and two outs later Brooke Wilson smoked a double into the gap in left center to score Polaski for an early 2-0 advantage.

That was all the support Jones would require as she was impressive in the circle despite not striking out a single hitter. The junior righthander allowed just one runner to reach third base, that coming in the fourth inning when Ashley Chesser doubled with one out and then moved to third on a groundout. But, Jones got out of the inning by retiring Adara Opiola to keep the Panthers scoreless and thwart their best scoring opportunity of the day.

A Look At The Numbers
  • Five of Loyola's six hits on the day came from their first four hitters in the batting order, with McGee reaching base four times on two hits and a pair of walks.
  • In addition to her double, Wilson also drew a walk and had a sacrifice hit.
  • With the win, Jones improves to 14-7 on the season.
