How It Happened
Three-time American Volleyball Coaches All-American
Jeff Jendryk had a hand in three blocks as the eighth-ranked Ramblers sprinted out to a 9-3 lead in the first set and never looked back on their way to a 25-17 victory. Loyola hit a whopping .550 (13-2-20) in the opener to coast to the win.
Loyola maintained a hot hand in the second set, hitting .500 (8-2-12), while the Hawks managed a paltry - .227 (5-10-22) attack percentage, in a 25-14 decision that put the Ramblers ahead, 2-0, in the match. Quincy pulled within 8-5 on a Loyola service error, but the Ramblers seized complete control and put the set out of reach with five unanswered points, to break open a 13-5 advantage.
Gevis had a hand in back-to-back blocks that were part of a 3-0 spurt that helped Loyola pull away in set three, turning a two-point game into an 18-13 lead. Quincy closed within three on a couple of occasions, the final time at 23-20, but a
Kyle Piekarski kill and a Hawks error closed out Loyola's 25-20 victory.
