CHICAGO (May 3, 2018) - The Ramblers head into the final weekend of the regular season still very much alive for a berth in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship which will be held next week in Des Moines. Loyola is looking to earn a berth to the Valley tournament in consecutive seasons for the first time since joining the league for the 2014 campaign. Loyola is coming off of a 3-0 victory over Drake that snapped the Bulldogs' 24-game winning streak and also halted the Ramblers' 11-game losing skid to their Valley rival. The Ramblers had scored just two runs in their previous five contests before putting six runs on the board in the last two games combined. Loyola has scored three or more runs in consecutive outings for the first time since March 23 (7 and 4 at Bradley).
Series Stuff
Loyola owns a 10-9 edge in the series with Indiana State and has claimed each of the last four meetings between the teams. The Ramblers have won just one of their last five outings in Terre Haute however, and snapped a four-game slide there with a 3-2 victory last April.
Scouting Indiana State
Indiana State has stumbled in six of its last seven contests, including each of the last four, heading into this weekend's series with Loyola. The Sycamores are 5-5 at Price Field this season and have won two of their last three games there and over the last four home games, Indiana State is putting up 4.5 runs per contest, but is 2-2 in those games. As a team, the Sycamores are hitting .261 and are led by the tandem of sophomore Leslie Sims, who is batting a team-best .401 (61-for-152) and is 23-for-23 in stolen base attempts this season, and freshman Bella Peterson, who is hitting .361 (43-for-119) with 11 doubles, three home runs and 25 RBI. Arielle Blankenship leads the Indiana State pitching staff with eight wins, despite starting only four games this spring.
