Club Release

GREENOCK, Scotland (July 20, 2018) – Kyle Thomson (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South), a recently graduated senior from the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team, has signed a professional contract with Greenock Morton F.C. of the Scottish Championship, it was announced by the club on Friday.
 
"Our entire program couldn't be more proud of Kyle today," Loyola head men's soccer coach Neil Jones said.  "He deserves this opportunity to continue his playing career at the professional level.  This is an extremely savvy signing by Greenock Morton F.C.  In Kyle, they've picked up an absolute gem of a player, teammate, and person."
 
Thomson was a fixture in the Loyola lineup during his time in Rogers Park, starting in every one of his 75 career appearances, while playing in 7,130 out of a possible 7,138 minutes.  The Park Ridge, Ill. native burst on the scene as a freshman when he was named the Missouri Valley Conference's Freshman of the Year and collected MVC All-Freshman Team accolades.
 
As a sophomore, Thomson earned a Second Team All-MVC nod to go along with a selection to the United Soccer Coaches' All-West Region Team.  A year later, he repeated as a Second Team All-Valley honoree, playing a vital role in Loyola's magical 2016 season that saw it advance to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
 
Thomson closed his time with the Maroon & Gold by putting together the top statistical season of his career as a senior.  The 6-foot midfielder netted a career-best three goals to go along with two assists en route to being named a First Team All-Valley selection.
 
"This now makes six Loyola Men's Soccer players in the past five years who have continued on to play professionally," Jones continued.  "Player development is something we place a huge emphasis on while the players are here with us, and it is encouraging to see players like Kyle be recognized by professional coaches as a top notch player who they want was part of their team."
