CHICAGO (August 16, 2018) – Carson Shanks (Apple Valley, Minn./Prior Lake/North Dakota) became the fourth member of the 2017-18 Loyola University Chicago men's basketball team to sign a professional contact when he signed to play with Gzira Athleta Basketball Club in Malta earlier this week. The 7-foot center played one season at Loyola after a stint at the University of North Dakota.
Last season, Shanks appeared in 13 contests off the bench for the Ramblers and scored a season-high six points, in only seven minutes of action, in his season debut in a victory over Eureka on November 12. Shanks was part of a Loyola team that posted a 32-6 overall record and established a program record for wins, while also capturing the hearts of basketball fans around the country by making a run to the NCAA Final Four for the first time since 1963.
Prior to his arrival in Rogers Park as a graduate transfer, Shanks spent three seasons at North Dakota, where he helped the Fighting Hawks to the NCAA tournament in 2017. His best season came in 2015-16, when he contributed 5.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
