CHICAGO (September 13, 2018) -
What a difference a year makes! After winning just five matches a year ago, Loyola has already surpassed that total with seven wins this season and brings a seven-match winning streak into this weekend's Chicago Cup at Gentile Arena. Dating back to last season, the Ramblers have won four of their last five matches on their home floor, with the lone setback coming at the hands of No. 25 Missouri State in last year's season finale. Loyola last had a winning streak of seven or more matches, September 4 through 24, 2015, when it rattled off 11 straight wins.

Saturday night's match against Northwestern will be a homecoming for Wildcats head coach Shane Davis, who guided Loyola to back-to-back NCAA championships as the Ramblers' men's volleyball coach in 2014 and 2015. As the head coach of the Loyola men's program, he compiled a 265-88 (.751) record over 12 seasons. An American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American as a setter in 2003, he graduated as Loyola's career assists leader.

Scouting DePaul

The Blue Demons enter this weekend's play on a four-match losing skid and have won just two sets during that stretch. Freshman outside hitter Mattie Norris has totaled a team-best 51 kills this season for DePaul, which is 2-2 away from its home court.

Scouting UIC

After getting off to a 4-2 start, UIC has stumbled in three of its last four outings and the Flames are 0-1 against Chicago teams this season after falling to Chicago State in straight sets on September 4. Freshman outside hitter Paola Santiago averages a team-best 2.29 kills per set and also contributes 2.74 digs, 0.46 blocks and 0.29 aces per set.

Scouting Northwestern

Northwestern saw its four-match winning streak come to an end with a 3-0 loss at Arkansas last Saturday. Going to four sets seems to be the formula for success for the Wildcats, who are 6-0 in such matches this fall. Led by sophomore outside hitter Nia Robinson, who accounts for 3.88 kills per set and hits .265 (128-49-298), Northwestern is hitting .221 as a team.

Up Next

Loyola opens Missouri Valley Conference action next weekend when it travels to Evansville (Sept. 21) and Indiana State (Sept. 22).
