Loyola Drops Sunday Match to Oakland, 6-1

In Short…
Oakland upended Loyola 6-1 in the Ramblers' lone match of the Hampton Inn at Loyola Chicago Classic. RS-senior Grant Stoneman scored for the Maroon and Gold in the 67th minute off a corner kick.

Coach Jones' Thoughts
"We need to be better, both as a group and individually," head coach Neil Jones said. "We have a tough one coming up here at home against Northwestern. [Hustle to Hoyne] is an awesome event. It's our fourth annual event, and we have a great opponent coming to town from the Big Ten in Northwestern, so it should be a good night."

How it Happened
The Golden Grizzlies struck less than two minutes into the match with a Spencer Nolff goal off a rebound. Sophomore Tyler Biggs came close to immediately tying it up in the third minute, but his open shot from inside the box was saved.

The next 30 minutes saw most of the action being played in the Oakland end of the field. The Ramblers logged numerous chances, most notably headers by seniors Tucker Stephenson and Grant Stoneman that were saved and pushed wide respectively.

Oakland exploded for three goals in a span of eight minutes. Travis Harrington notched two unassisted goals in the 36th and 43rd minutes, and moments later, Noah Jensen increased the Golden Grizzlies' lead to 4-0 with a penalty kick goal.

After taking a 4-0 lead to the lockerroom, the Grizzlies added one more in the 67th minute with a shot to the far post from 20 yards out. 18 seconds later, Grant Stoneman got the Ramblers on the board with a header off a Marius Kullmann corner kick.

Oakland tacked on one more goal in the 85th minute to push the score to 6-1, which ultimately ended up being the final score when the second half came to a close.

A Look at the Numbers
-Loyola ended the match with more shots than Oakland, leading in that department 14-12.
-The Maroon and Gold earned three corners throughout the match, and converted on one of them for their lone tally of the night.
-Loyola posted seven shots on goal, giving them 15 throughout the last two matches.
-Freshman Simon Jillson made his collegiate debut for the Ramblers and registered two saves in the second half.
-Five yellow cards were issued, two to Oakland and three to Loyola.
