In Short…

Spurred on by a second two-goal performance from senior Jenna Szczesny in as many games, the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team continued its perfect start to Missouri Valley Conference play by racing to a 4-0 victory over Indiana State this evening at Memorial Stadium in Terre Haute, Ind.  The win, Loyola's second in as many games, moves the Ramblers to 5-5-1 overall (2-0-0 MVC), while the Sycamores drop to 6-5-2 (0-2-0 MVC).
Coach Bimbi's Thoughts…
"We had a very determined and focused effort from front to back tonight.  We didn't give up many quality chances defensively and were opportunistic in the final third."
How It Happened
Loyola controlled the possession battle in the opening minutes under the lights on a cool night on the western edge of Indiana.  Senior Madison Kimball tallied the first attempt for either team in the 12th minute, forcing a stop out of Hannah Sullivan, the Sycamore netminder.  Szczesny broke the deadlock just over nine minutes later when she headed a throw-in from sophomore Jenna Ross in at the near post to give Loyola a 1-0 edge in the 21st minute.
The Ramblers continued to pile on the pressure following Szczensy's opening tally and were rewarded in the 36th minute.  Junior Madison Laudeman unleashed a free kick from 35 yards out that skipped its way through traffic inside the 18-yard box and into the back of the net as the lead stretched to 2-0.  Szczesny capped off Loyola's first-half scoring barrage two minutes later, directing home a pinpoint free kick from fellow senior Taylor Lambouris to send the Maroon & Gold into halftime with a commanding 3-0 advantage.
Junior goalkeeper Kate Moran recorded her first stop of the evening five minutes into the second stanza, easily collecting Caitlyn Eddy's free kick.  The Denver, Colo. native was called into action again in the 59th minute as she went to the ground to pull in an attempt from Katie Wells.
Junior Aleksa Tataryn fired home the second half's lone goal in the 69th minute.  Following a shot by junior Sienna Cruz that rung off the post, Tataryn sent the rebound past Sullivan to push the margin to 4-0.  The Rambler defensive unit would close the show, keeping the Sycamores off the scoreboard as Loyola secured a 2-0 start to Valley play.
Looking At The Numbers
- Szczesny's two goals move her into sole possession of second place on Loyola's all-time goal scoring chart.  The senior now has 28 goals to her name and sits back of only Cynthia Morote-Ariza, who racked up 45 goals during her four-year stay in Rogers Park.
- Laudeman's first-half goal was her first of the season, while Tataryn's closing goal brought her season tally to two.
- Ross notched her fourth assist of the season on Szczesny's headed effort in the 21st minute.  The Crystal Lake, Ill. native now shares the team lead in the category with her senior counterpart.
- Moran finished the night with two saves as the Ramblers held Indiana State to only four shots en route to notching their second clean sheet of the season.
Up Next
The Ramblers return home next Saturday (October 6) to take on Drake, The Valley's reigning regular-season champion.  Loyola will honor its senior class in a special ceremony prior to the 7 p.m. kickoff.
