Loyola Completes the Five-Game Weekend Sweep with a 6-0 Win Over IUPUI

In Short
Loyola completed the five-game sweep of the Total Control Sports Invitational with a 6-0 win over IUPUI on Sunday afternoon. The big Rambler hits came off a pair of 2-RBI doubles by Madison Ebeling and Shannon McGee in the fourth inning.

Coach Tylka's Thoughts
"I was happy we were able to generate some chaos on the bases and come up with some big hits with runners in scoring position," head coach Jeff Tylka said. "Our pitching was very good once again, and they were successful in executing their game plans. It was a great opening weekend and we will get to work on preparing for next weekend."

How It Happened
Loyola sent Kiley Jones to the circle in an effort to stifle the Jaguar bats. The senior tossed four scoreless innings with the only real IUPUI threat coming in the third.

Loyola was held off the scoreboard themselves until the bottom of the third when Jessica Shields knocked in her first RBI for Loyola by beating out a ground ball for a hit. Two batters later, Allyson Ivey smoked a hot shot to center field that brought Shields home and doubled the Rambler lead to 2-0.

After Jones breezed through her final inning of work in the top of the fourth, the Loyola bats got right back at it in the bottom half of the frame, beginning with a leadoff double from Abbey Jacobsen. After Jordyn Cordell doubled to left to put ducks on the pond, Loyola worked its way to the top of the lineup, consequently bringing Madison Ebeling to the plate. The freshman shortstop hit a double in the gap that brought both runners home and doubled the lead again to 4-0. Loyola wasn't finished, as two batters later Shannon McGee clubbed a double in the other gap that gave the Ramblers their largest lead of the season at 6-0.

Now with all the run support the pitching staff needed, Keenan Dolezal took over in the fifth and retired three of four batters faced. Dolezal ran into some trouble in the top of the sixth, but got a ground out to end the two-runners on chance for IUPUI.

The Ramblers had bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom half of the sixth but couldn't convert. It ended up not mattering as Madison Veres took over in the circle in the seventh for her third appearance of the year. The Jags went down quietly, and Loyola captured the victory and remained undefeated on the young season.

A Look at the Numbers

-Jacobsen picked up another hit in the win, increasing her season total bases count to a team-leading 10.
-Jessica Shields is 5-for-5 in stolen bases this season and has gone two straight games with multiple steals.
