Drake (18-5, 10-1 MVC) wasted no time in building a double-digit lead as it defeated Loyola University Chicago, 83-55, this afternoon at Gentile Arena. The Ramblers now sit at 10-12 overall and 4-7 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
How It Happened
Following a game-opening 6-0 spurt from the visitors,
Allison Day converted inside to put Loyola on the board, 6-2, with 90 seconds gone. Drake responded with 11 of the game's next 12 points en route to building a 17-3 edge approaching the midway point of the first quarter.
Abby O'Connor connected on a mid-range jumper shortly after to snap the cold spell but the Bulldogs kept their foot on the gas, opening up a 27-13 lead by the end of the frame.

Tiara Wallace trimmed the margin to 11 (31-20) with 7:44 remaining in the first half. With the deficit sitting at 42-29 following a
Janae Gonzales three at the 2:43 mark, Sara Rhine finished at the rim to spark a quarter-ending 12-0 Drake run that sent the Bulldogs surging into halftime with a 54-29 advantage.
Drake continued to operate at a torrid pace throughout the second half, opening up a 73-35 lead by the end of the third quarter. Layups from O'Connor and Gonzales, respectively, provided the bookends for an 8-0 Loyola run during the middle stages of the fourth quarter that pulled the Ramblers within 77-50 with 2:37 to play. That proved to be as close as the Maroon & Gold could get for the remainder of the afternoon as Drake notched its 10
th Valley victory of the season.

- Gonzales highlighted a trio of Ramblers in double figures with 18 points (7-19 FGs, 4-14 3FGs). The freshman, who also handed out a team-best three assists, averaged 19.0 points over Loyola's two weekend contests.
- Day and O'Connor added 10 points apiece, with the latter falling just a rebound short of her third consecutive double-double.
- Rhine led all scorers with 23 points for a Drake, who racked up 30 assists on 32 made baskets.
