Loyola Falls to No. 19 Indiana in Another Nail-Biter

In Short…
Loyola fell in another nail-biting contest to No. 19 Indiana, 3-1, on Sunday Morning (Feb. 24). The Hoosiers remain the only team this season to defeat the Ramblers.

Coach Tylka's Thoughts
"We did a better job offensively putting runners on base and attacking the right pitches," head coach Jeff Tylka said. "I think both our pitchers did a good job, and defensively we just weren't as sound as we needed to be. It's a great opportunity to grow and learn for our next time out. Growth doesn't happen without failure."

How It Happened
Loyola found itself in its second low-scoring affair to bookend its weekend slate in Mercer. A Grayson Radcliffe single through the right side made the Hoosiers the initial team to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first.

Not letting the first run phase her, Rambler starter Keenan Dolezal settled in to deliver 1-2-3 innings in each of the following two frames. The hard work paid off as the Ramblers managed to tie the game in the top half of the first. Preceded by a Shannon McGee double, Allyson Ivey hustled out a ground ball to short for an infield single, forcing a throwing error in the process that brought McGee all the way around to score.

However, a pair of safety-squeezes by the Hoosiers reestablished a one-run lead in the bottom of the fourth, and bought an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth.

Down 3-1 in the sixth, the Maroon and Gold got baserunners in each of the final innings, but were unable to cut into the Hoosier lead as IU held on to win the Sunday morning contest, 3-1.

A Look at the Numbers
-With a double in the contest, Shannon McGee extended her hitting streak to four games. Her season slugging percentage passed .800 in the process (.805).
-Nova Sinskul tied her single-game season high in hits (2), marking her second multi-hit game of the season.
-In pitching 3.0 innings for the Ramblers, Madison Veres set a season high for innings in an appearance.
-Sunday was the first time this season Jeff Tylka went with the Dolezal-Jacobsen battery to start the game.

Up Next
Loyola begins the month of March with its final weekend non-conference tournament of the regular season in Memphis, Tenn. as a part of the Memphis Softball Tournament. The Ramblers will be matched up against UT-Martin, Mississippi Valley State, Sam Houston State and Memphis.
