In Short…
Loyola fell to Missouri State in another close game on Sunday (March 17). The Ramblers got two hits from
Shannon McGee and runs batted in from
Abbey Jacobsen and
Allyson Ivey. Katie Kasubke also knocked in a run, which came off a solo home run.
How It Happened
The Bears jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third with a pair of unearned runs. The lead was doubled to 4-0 an inning later with a single to right.
Needing to string together some runs quickly, Loyola got on the board in its half of the fourth.
Shannon McGee extended her hitting streak to five games with a double to left field that got the leadoff batter in scoring position. Two batters later,
Allyson Ivey registered an infield single to bring McGee home and get the Ramblers on the board.
The scoring didn't stop there.
Abbey Jacobsen knocked in her second RBI in a span of three games to bring the Ramblers back within two with a clutch two-out single to left.
After entering the game in the third in relief,
Kiley Jones ran into her only trouble of the outing with a runners on second and third situation, with one out. A heads up play by McGee doubled off Darby Joerling for her second outfield assist of the season, but a run crossed before the out to put the Bears up 5-2.
Katie Kasubke blasted a 1-1 fastball over the left field fence to lead off the top of the sixth to trim the deficit to two, but Missouri State starter Steffany Dickerson settled down and didn't allow a baserunner the rest of the way. The Bears edged the Ramblers, 5-3, in the Sunday morning tilt.
A Look at the Numbers
