UIC Stymies Loyola in a Low-Scoring Midweek Matchup

In Short…
Loyola dropped a midweek contest to UIC, 2-1, at Flames Field. The Ramblers plated Brooke Wilson in the top of the seventh, but the rally was halted there.

How It Happened
UIC struck first with an RBI-single its first inning up at bat, but the damage was limited to that thanks to a 1-3 double play turned by Madison Veres. Loyola had a runner of first and second with nobody out the following inning, but were unable to take advantage of the opportunity.

Keenan Dolezal took over for Veres in the third inning and pitched the rest of the way. The right-hander only surrendered one earned run to lower her season ERA to 1.97.
In her six innings of work, Dolezal registered two 1-2-3 innings (third and fifth), and added a low-leverage sixth that featured only one baserunner via walk.

The Ramblers threatened in both the fifth and sixth innings, beginning with a fifth that featured a Katie Polaski walk and Emily Borg pinch-hit single. The situation evolved to a ducks-on-the-pond opportunity for Loyola, but the Flames got out of the inning and held their 2-0 lead.

The next inning showcased the same story, this time with Shannon McGee and Allyson Ivey reaching base via single and walk. After the two baserunners reached second and third, UIC brought in Marley Hanlon from the bullpen who retired the side.

The Maroon and Gold broke through in the top of the seventh with McGee reaching on a fielder's choice to net her an RBI. However, the rally was too little, too late as the home team held on to capture the 2-1 triumph.

A Look at the Numbers
-Madison Veres made another appearance without allowing an earned run, dropping her season ERA to 0.70 through her 30.0 innings pitched.
-Keenan Dolezal pitched the bulk of the innings for the Ramblers with four on Tuesday afternoon, eclipsing 60 innings on the season in the process.
-Shannon McGee has registered an RBI in three of her last four games, totaling 16 in non-conference play.
-McGee's 22nd total RBI this season surpassed her 2018 total of 21.

Up Next
