In Short…
Allyson Ivey tallied her 44th and 45th RBIs of the season to set a new program record in a doubleheader loss to Northern Illinois.
Â
How It Happened
The Ramblers offensive production began with a bang as
Madison Ebeling got the scoring started with a solo home run in the game's second at-bat. The blast was her third home run of the season and second consecutive game with an extra-base hit. The Ramblers threatened for more but only plated one in the first.
Â
The game stayed scoreless through the next three innings. Starter
Kiley Jones held the Huskies' bats at bay, pitching to contact and only allowing one hit and faced the minimum through four innings. Jones worked around a pair of fielding errors in the fifth to preserve her team's lead.
Â
The Ramblers tacked on two more in their half of the fifth to put themselves in control.
Katie Kasubke laced an opposite field single to bring home
Jessica Shields and double the lead, followed by an
Abbey Jacobsen RBI-single two batters later.
Â
The Huskies got on the board in the sixth, and it turned out to be a massive run down the stretch. A seventh-inning rally by the home team tied it up and sent the game to extras. A single to right field brought in two and tied the game with one swing of the bat.
Â
After an uneventful eighth inning, Loyola broke through in the ninth with a three-run frame. Jacobsen delivered another clutch hit that broke the tie and brought home
Allyson Ivey. Looking for insurance runs,
Emily Borg came off the bench and clubbed a pinch-hit double that widened the lead to 6-3. However, the resilient Huskies tied it again in their half of the ninth with a two-out single that plated three.
Â
The second comeback paid off for the home team, as Northern Illinois scored the winning run in the bottom of the 11
th to steal the first game of the twin bill.
Â
The Ramblers got two quick runs in the top of the first with an RBI-single from Ivey, her 44
th run batted in of 2019 to tie the program record. With two runners on and less than two outs,
Nova Sinskul netted her first RBI of the doubleheader with a base-knock the other way that brought home Jacobsen.
Â
Loyola added another in the top of the third with Ivey coming through again at the plate. Jacobsen's leadoff double got a runner in scoring position for Ivey, who took advantage with a double down the left field line. The run batted in broke Becky Marx's single-season RBI record set back in 2004, and gave Loyola a 3-0 lead.
Â
The Huskies put a damper on the accomplishment with a three-run fourth inning that made it a new ball game. After a scoreless fifth and sixth inning, NIU delivered a walk-off three-run home run that secured game two of the twin bill by a 6-3 score.
