In Short…
Loyola pegged Indiana State for 14 runs in the series finale to sweep the Sycamores in the three-game set. The Ramblers went deep thrice, including one of
Allyson Ivey's three hits, while
Madison Ebeling chipped in four hits of her own to set a new personal best.
Coach Tylka's Thoughts:
"Confidence is contageous," head coach
Jeff Tylka said. "If someone does well, someone else want to pick their game up and do the same thing. When you see one person do it everyone else chimes in."
How It Happened
A
Jessica Shields leadoff triple got the first inning scoring spree started in the Rambler at-bats in the game.
Madison Ebeling brought her in immediately with an RBI-single to left and got the Ramblers on the board. After a
Shannon McGee double put runners on second and third,
Allyson Ivey posted the fourth consecutive LUC hit to open the game with a single that brought them both in.
The Sycamores wouldn't go down quietly and got a run back right away in the top of the second. One inning later, a string of back-to-back hits put Loyola in a dangerous spot in the third. The Ramblers got a groundout for the second out that allowed a run to score, but a Sycamore single the next inning tied it up and gave the teams a clean slate.
Loyola had an answer and compiled a big third inning for the second consecutive outing.
Nova Sinskul's second home run of the season put the Ramblers up 5-3 and extended her hitting streak to three games. Back-to-back triples from
Caitlin Engelking and
Jordyn Cordell doubled up Indiana State at 6-3 and knocked starter Gabbi Schnaiter out of the ball game.
The runs continued to pour in that inning, beginning with another RBI-single by Ebeling, followed by RBI plays from McGee and Ivey to double their totals for the game. The Ramblers blew it open on a two-run home run to left by
Katie Kasubke that put the home team up 11-3. The blast went down as Kasubke's 100
th and 101
st career RBIs.
Now with a large deficit on its hands, Indiana State put a big inning of their own to use with a four-spot that narrowed the Ramblers' lead to 11-8. Quick to respond however, Ivey blasted Loyola's third home run of the game in the bottom of the fifth that put the home team back up by five at 13-8. One more run by the Ramblers crossed home plate in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 14-8 going into the seventh.
Entering the game in a save situation,
Keenan Dolezal finished off the Sycamores in the top of the seventh with a low-stress inning that cemented her first save since 2017. The Ramblers knocked off the Sycamores 14-8 to complete their first MVC series sweep of the season.
