Collin Mahan Signs with Abiant Lycurgus

CHICAGO (May 23, 2019) – Former Loyola outside hitter Collin Mahan (Victor, N.Y.), who recently became the 14th AVCA All-American in school history, has signed a professional contract with Abiant Lycurgus, a Dutch club based in Groningen, Netherlands. The organization, which announced the signing today (May 23), is the reigning three-time defending champions of the Super Cup in the Champions League.

"We could not be more proud of Collin. The coaching staff is extremely happy that he gets the opportunity to continue to play the sport he loves," head coach Mark Hulse said. "Now the real work for him begins, but there's no doubt in my mind he'll be up to the challenge and represent himself, his new organization and Loyola Chicago admirably."

During his four-year career with the Ramblers, Mahan helped the program accumulate 80 wins and two appearances in the MIVA Championship. The outside hitter finished his stay in Rogers Park with 1,136 career kills on .295 career hitting, and is the only men's volleyball player in school history to exceed 1,000 career kills, 600 career digs and 100 career aces. During his All-American senior season, Mahan set career bests with 3.38 kills per set on .319 hitting, and racked up 49 aces – the most by a Rambler individual since 2015.

With just over 400 sets played of collegiate experience for the Ramblers, Mahan was hailed as an AVCA Second Team All-American in 2019, coupled with taking home First Team All-MIVA honors. In the years prior, Mahan earned AVCA All-America Honorable Mention accolades in 2018, while being named First Team All-MIVA (2018), Second Team All-MIVA (2017) and All-MIVA Honorable Mention (2016) leading up to his senior season.

Mahan saw his name near the top of numerous individual conference ranks in 2019. His 362 kills and 3.38 kills per set finished third and fifth respectively in the MIVA. His outburst of service aces finished second among his conference peers, while his average of 0.46 aces per set ranked eighth nationally.

Loyola finished the 2019 campaign ranked No. 9 in the AVCA DI-II Coaches Poll, marking the seventh time in the last eight years the program finished the season within the AVCA's Top-10 rankings.
