Ramblers Sweep Bearcats at Home

CHICAGO -- No. 9 Loyola Chicago swept No. 12 McKendree in just over an hour on Thursday, April 2 inside Gentile Arena. The Ramblers improved to 16-6 overall and 10-3 in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) play.

Loyola's offense was led by graduate student Josh Schellinger with nine kills on .571 hitting and junior outside Daniel Fabikovic posted nine stuff at the net to lead the defense. Senior libero JJ Sowa had a perfect reception percentage and four digs while redshirt sophomore Tyler Howard contributed eight kills and five digs.

Coach Quote: Shane Davis
"Our serve receive was really good tonight, and McKendree gets after it from the service line. Ryan [McElligott] was in a really good rhythm and our tempo was there, which made everything easier for us in our middles. Brad [Bell] and Aidan [Klein] were really efficient for us and finding opportunities in transition too, which goes along to the defense. Anytime you can out-dig and out-block McKendree, it's a good night from a defensive standpoint."

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Ramblers took control of the set-one lead at 3-2 and never looked back to win the opening frame 25-17. Loyola hit .500 and had 12 kills in the set.

SET 2 | Loyola set itself up for a sweep with a 25-15 victory in set two. Schellinger opened the scoring and the Ramblers never looked back, opening its largest lead of 10 points to close out the set. The defense had a solid defensive performance, blocking four McKendree attacks in the frame.

SET 3 | The Ramblers sealed the sweep with a 25-19 set-three win thanks to a triple block by Schellinger, Bell and redshirt junior Bryce Robbins. Loyola's offense got a boost from three aces in the stanza, led by McElligott.
