Boxscore

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (September 14, 2019)

In Short
Loyola University Chicago (5-5) completed an impressive day at the Amy Svoboda Memorial Classic by rolling to a 25-13, 25-17, 25-11 victory over host Air Force this afternoon. With the win, Loyola picked up its second sweep of the day and the Maroon and Gold has now prevailed in four of its last six matches.

How It Happened
A dominating performance led to a 25-13 Loyola victory in the opening set as the Maroon and Gold hit a sizzling .423 (14-3-26), with Taylor Venuto producing four kills and three blocks. The Ramblers assembled a run of six consecutive points to break a 6-all tie and seize a 12-6 lead they would never relinquish.

Consecutive Elle Van Grinsven kills punctuated a 4-0 spurt that broke an early tie and put Loyola ahead, 7-3, in the second set. After the host Falcons closed within a point (11-10), Loyola created some separation by running off six of the next seven points to open up a 17-11 advantage. From that point on, Air Force would get no closer than four points as the Ramblers collected a 25-17 win for a 2-0 lead in the match.

Loyola scored four unanswered tallies as part of a larger 7-1 burst that turned a one-point lead into a comfortable 12-5 advantage in the third set. That lead proved too much for Air Force to overcome, and the Falcons were never able to get closer than seven points the rest of the way as Loyola scored the final five points of the set for a 25-11 victory.

A Look At The Numbers
  • Addie Barnes and Venuto crushed eight kills each to pace the Loyola offense, which also received seven kills and eight digs from Sarah Murczek.
  • Loyola wound up hitting .309 (39-9-97) for the match, with Venuto hitting at a .727 (8-0-11) clip, while adding six blocks.
  • Maddy Moser totaled 20 digs, her fifth match with 20 or more digs this season.
  • Cambria Galloway led Air Force, which hit just .000 (24-214-112) for the match, with six kills.

Up Next
Loyola returns to the Windy City and will compete in the Chicago Cup hosed by DePaul, September 20-21. The Ramblers open play, which has city bragging rights on the line, Friday (Sept. 20) versus Northwestern at 4 p.m.
