CHICAGO (November 18, 2020) – Former Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball student-athlete
Avery Aylsworth (San Jose, Calif./Saint Francis) has signed a professional contract with Vfb Friedrichshafen in Germany. The 6-foot-libero spent last season playing for Raision Loimu in Finland.
Â
"I couldn't be more excited to play another season, especially with one of the most decorates clubs in Bundesliga," Aylsworth said. "It's tough to get a contract with everything that is going on so I am extremely thankful for the opportunity. It will be a great way for me to improve and represent Loyola at the highest level."
Â
Aylsworth wrapped up his collegiate career in 2019, earning Second Team All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) honors, while also ranking eighth in NCAA Division I-II with 2.33 digs per set. As a senior, he helped the Ramblers to a 21-win season as well as a No. 9 ranking in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I-II Poll. He produced 10 or more digs on 10 occasions during his senior campaign and his 609 career digs rank sixth in Loyola history.
Â
"The Loyola community is strong and I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to help me get here," Aylsworth said. "With so many obstacles in the way just to get some training to stay in shape this offseason, I was able to connect with my former coaches
Mark Hulse,
Matt McCarthy and Shane Davis on how to navigate this time. They were great resources in helping me to continue developing my game and growing my network."
Â
Aylsworth and his club will also play in the Champions League with the first set of matches to take place in Italy during the first weekend in December. The second pairing of matches is scheduled for February in Germany. Fans can watch those contestsÂ
