CHICAGO (December 4, 2020) – With the 2020-21 season officially underway, the Loyola University Chicago women's basketball team has learned the path it will take through Missouri Valley Conference play, following the release of a revised schedule by the league office on Friday.
Â
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, The Valley will forgo a traditional home-and-home round robin and will have teams play both games of a season series at one site over a two-day stretch. Each institution will face their designated "travel partner" in a single-game, home-and-home series.
Â
Loyola will open its league slate and the new calendar year by welcoming Indiana State to Gentile Arena, January 1-2. The Ramblers hit the road the following weekend (Jan. 8-9), traveling to Springfield, Mo. to battle reigning MVC regular-season champion Missouri State, which finds itself rated in both the Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Poll. Matchups against a pair of in-state rivals follow, with Southern Illinois making its way to Rogers Park, January 15-16, ahead of a trip downstate to Peoria, Ill. to take on Bradley, January 22-23.
Â
After a stand-alone road contest at Valparaiso on January 27, perennial MVC power Drake will visit Gentile Arena, February 5-6. The Maroon & Gold will spend the next two weekends on the road, taking on Evansville (Feb. 12-13) and UNI (Feb. 19-20), before returning to Rogers Park to close out its season series with Valparaiso on February 24 ahead of hosting Illinois State (March 5-6) to wrap up the regular season.
Â
The Missouri Valley Conference Championship is set for March 11-14 and will take place inside TaxSlayer Center in Moline, Ill.
Â
Currently sitting at 1-0 following a season-opening 70-57 victory over Chicago State this past Saturday, Loyola is back in action on Sunday, December 13 at 3 p.m. when it battles No. 20/19 DePaul inside Wintrust Arena.
