CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago women's basketball student-athletes
Vasiliki Cholopoulou and
Mireia Jurado will represent their home countries at the FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket, which tips off Saturday.
Cholopoulou, originally from Kozani, will compete for Greece in Division B in Samokov, Bulgaria. She was recognized by FIBA as one of the tournament's Players to Watch. Greece opens Group Phase play against Albania on Saturday (July 4) at Triumph Hall.
Jurado, a native of Barcelona, will suit up for defending Division A champion Spain in Klaipeda, Lithuania. Spain begins its title defense Saturday with a Group Phase matchup against Israel at Gargzdai Arena.
Founded in 2000, the FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket is an annual championship organized by FIBA Europe for the continent's top women's national teams featuring players under the age of 20. 16 teams compete in Division A and Division B, beginning with group play before advancing to the knockout rounds to determine each division's champion.
