Loyola Shuts Down Sam Houston State, 7-0

The Ramblers finish the Bearkat Classic with a victory and move to 7-3 overall.

Continuing their win streak, the Loyola University Chicago softball team finished out the Bearkat Classic tournament in Huntsville, Texas with a 7-0 shutout victory over tournament host Sam Houston State. The Ramblers finish the Bearkat Classic with a 4-1 record and improve to 7-3 this season.
 
How It Happened
The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth, when Katie Polaski created an opportunity for the Ramblers. The junior singled to right field and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Nova Sinskul. Emily Borg came up and doubled to left center to drive in Polaski for the first run of the game.
 
Madison Ebeling added another single in the top of the sixth, followed by a double from Shannon McGee. Allyson Ivey walked to load the bases and Polaski was up again, recording a sacrifice fly to bring Ebeling home. Sinskul then singled and advanced to second on a Sam Houston State error for two more runs to take a 4-0 lead.
 
Loyola secured the victory in the seventh with three singles from Abbey Jacobsen, Jessica Shields and Ebeling. With no outs and the bases loaded, McGee drove in a two-RBI single to center field for a 6-0 lead. Ivey recorded one more sacrifice fly to bring in Ebeling before the inning concluded with a 7-0 lead.
 
A Look At The Numbers
- Madison Veres picked up her second win of the season and moves to 2-2 overall. Veres pitched all seven innings, only allowing four hits and one walk.
- Shannon McGee tallied two hits, including one double, two RBI and one run.
- Katie Polaski recorded two hits, one RBI and one run.
