Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Loyola Falls To No. 5 Lewis In Three Sets

The Ramblers move to 6-11 (3-4 MIVA).

In Short
The Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball team fell to No. 5 Lewis tonight in Romeoville, Ill. Loyola moves to 6-11 (3-4 MIVA), while the Flyers improve to 13-4 (6-1 MIVA).

How It Happened
In the first set, the Ramblers took a 4-2 lead on the Flyers after a quick kill from Ian Cowen followed by an ace. Lewis then turned it around with an 15-11 lead, posting a 4-0 run. Loyola called a timeout but the Ramblers struggled to respond. Anton Frank launched a middle kill to close the 19-12 gap Lewis formed, but they ended up on a 6-3 run to win, 25-15.

The teams battled in the second set, tying eight times until Loyola went on a 3-0 run to lead 13-10 and force a Lewis timeout.  Out of the timeout, Lewis snuck up on the Ramblers, taking back a 17-15 lead. The Ramblers tied it up again, 18-18 after Devin Joslyn posted an ace, but Lewis continued to battle ahead. After service errors from both teams, Lewis had a 22-20 lead. The Flyers took set two, 25-20.

Neither team led by more than one point until Lewis took a 7-5 lead in the third from back-to-back kills. Kyle Piekarski answered the Flyers with a big middle kill to make it 7-6, but the Ramblers weren't able to come back. Lewis went on a 3-1 run to take an 11-7 lead, followed by another 3-0 run to bring the score to 15-9. Still fighting, Cowen/Piekarski rejected the Flyers with a major monster block, 21-13, but it wasn't enough. Schlothauer put down one last kill to make it 22-15, but Lewis came out on top, 25-15.
