ROSEMONT, Ill. (February 9, 2020)
In Short
Allyson Ivey drove in three runs and
Madison Veres only allowed one run in six innings as the Loyola University Chicago softball team rolled past IUPUI, 7-1 in the final game of the Rambler Rumble at The Dome in Rosemont, Ill. With today's victory, the Ramblers run their win streak to two and advance to 3-2 overall this season.
How It Happened
IUPUI opened up the scoring in the top of the third by driving in a run on an RBI single to left center.
The Ramblers then rallied quickly in the bottom of the third with three singles from
Abbey Jacobsen,
Jessica Shields and
Madison Ebeling. After
Shannon McGee reached first on a fielders choice, Jacobsen was able to make it home off an IUPUI throwing error. The momentum continued to pick up for the Maroon & Gold as
Allyson Ivey singled and advanced to second on a throw to drive in Shields, Ebeling and McGee for a 4-1 advantage.
Loyola sealed the deal in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs. With a McGee single and an Ivey double,
Emily Borg was able to knock McGee in for a 5-1 lead. Borg's RBI was followed by a
Hailey Crabtree single to bring in
Sophie Van Acker, who was pinch running for Ivey. After an error from IUPUI and a Loyola steal, the Ramblers ended up with runners on second and third once again, to allow an Engelking sacrifice fly to center field, advancing both runners for the 7-1 victory.
