Vance, Anderson Earn Spots On MVC Men’s Golf Scholar-Athlete Team

Vance Loyola’s second First Team honoree in program history

CHICAGO (April 16, 2020) – Loyola University Chicago sophomore Nate Vance (Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown) and junior Tyler Anderson (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic) have been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team, it was announced by the league office on Thursday.  Vance earned First Team accolades, while Anderson was tabbed an Honorable Mention selection.

Only Loyola's second First Team MVC Scholar-Athlete selection in program history, Vance finished his sophomore year with a program-record 72.2 stroke average that led the Rambler roster.  The Marshalltown, Iowa native turned in the top 54-hole effort of his career at the Derek Dolenc Invitational, finishing play with a one-under-par 212 (68-70-74) to share fifth.  Just a week after, he fired a three-over-par 216 (71-71-74) as he earned a runner-up finish and helped lead the Maroon & Gold to the team title at the Zach Johnson Invitational.

Vance holds a 3.65 cumulative grade-point average as a Finance major.

Anderson wrapped up his junior year with a career-low 75.4 stroke average, ranking fourth on the Rambler roster in the category.  Out of suburban Mundelein, Ill., Anderson shot four rounds at par or better, highlighted by season-low rounds of 71 at both the Crusader Collegiate (71-72-73=216) and Derek Dolenc Invitational (73-71-71=215).  He closed out the fall with a 12th-place finish (74-75-72=221) at the Flyer Invitational.

Like Vance, Anderson is also majoring in Finance, sporting a 3.58 cumulative grade-point average.

The criteria for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team parallels the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) standards for its Academic All-America program. Nominees must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of his team's rounds.
