Four Ramblers Named WGCA All-American Scholars

Brown, Martinez, Meyers, Posada recognized by organization

CHICAGO (June 29, 2020) – Four members of the Loyola University Chicago women's golf team have been selected as All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), the organization announced on Monday.  Senior Morgan Brown (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Central Catholic), junior Abbey Meyers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) and Lorenza Martinez (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) were all repeat selections from a year ago, while redshirt junior Sara Posada (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Tasis Dorado/Illinois Springfield) joined the trio.
 
A four-time WGCA All-American Scholar honoree for her career, Brown, an Accounting major, carded a 79.6 stroke average across 16 rounds of play during her final campaign in Rogers Park.  The Lafayette, Ind. native shot nine rounds in the 70s, highlighted by an 18-hole season-best 76 during second-round play at the Redbird Invitational. 
 
Posada, who is double majoring in Anthropology and Advocacy and Social Change saw action in 13 rounds in 2019-20, finishing the year with an 80.9 stroke average.  Out of Dorado, Puerto Rico, she opened the season with a 54-hole season-best 233 (77-81-85) at the Redbird Invitational before turning in an 18-hole season-low 74 one week later at the Loyola Fall Invitational.
 
Earning her second All-American Scholar nod in as many years, Meyers competed in 15 rounds, boasting a career-best 82.2 stroke average.  An Accounting and Information Systems double major, Meyers, a native of Columbus, Ohio, shined at the Missouri Valley Conference Preview, leading the Ramblers with a 242 (76-83-83) that included an 18-hole career-best 76 in the event's opening round.
 
Rounding out Loyola's quartet of honorees is another two-time All-American Scholar selection in Martinez, who led the Rambler roster with a 78.0 stroke average in 16 rounds of play.  The Menomonee Falls, Wis. product racked up a team-best 11 rounds in the 70s, claiming ninth-place finishes at both the Loyola Fall Invitational and the Braun Intercollegiate.  A Marketing major, Martinez was tabbed an Honorable Mention choice to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team in April.
 
A total of 1,401 women's collegiate golfers were recognized on the WGCA All-American Scholar Team.  The criteria for selection are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics, with a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 required.
