JONESBORO, Ark. (October 12, 2021) – Graduate student
Devin Johnson fired his top 18-hole round of the past two days to lead a balanced attack as the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team earned a third-place finish at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate in Jonesboro, Ark.
Â
The Ramblers turned in a final-round 289 to close play with a 54-hole team tally of 881 (305-287-289) that saw them finish only two strokes back of second-place Oral Roberts (300-294-285=879). Loyola led all Missouri Valley Conference teams in attendance at the event.
Â
Arkansas State (292-289-277=858) cruised to the team title, with the Red Wolves' Jack Madden claiming individual medalist honors with a five-under-par 211 (76-66-69).
Â
"This was a solid week overall," Loyola head men's golf coach
Erik Hoops stated. "We got great contributions and some great rounds from Dylan (Ellis), Timmy (Crawford), Devin, and Zach (Walsh). They really played some great golf. We have two goals each week. The first is to obviously win a championship, while the second is to be the low MVC school. Doing that on a goal course that is very different from what we normally play is something we can really hang our hat on."
Â
One of four Ramblers to earn a top-25 finish, Johnson impressed today at the par-72, 6,676-yard RidgePointe Country Club. After a pair of early bogeys, the Geneva, Ill. native played his last 15 holes of the day at four-under-par en route to a two-under-par 70 that saw him climb up into a tie for 23
rd place at 222 (77-75-70).
Â
The junior duo of
Timmy Crawford and
Dylan Ellis were the top two Ramblers on the final leaderboard, both finishing tied for 13
th with three-over-par 219s. Crawford (74-72-73) turned in a final-round one-over-par 73, while Ellis shot a two-over-par 74.
Â
Junior
Zach Walsh used an even-par 72 today to ascend up into a four-way tie for 19
th at 221 (79-70-72). Redshirt senior
Tyler Anderson carded a 79 as he tied for 70
th with a 235 (81-75-79).
Â
"We're looking forward to wrapping up the fall season in Dayton next week," Hoops added. "It's always a course we love to play."

Loyola concludes its 2021 fall slate next week, October 18-19, at the Flyer Invitational in Kettering, Ohio.
