Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Three Ramblers Pick Up Goals In Win Over Braves

Hency, Dueso and Cisneros each contributed a goal in tonight's match.

CHICAGO (Oct. 27, 2021)

In Short…
It was a slow start on the pitch for the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team (9-3-1, 6-1-1), but that didn't stop them from pulling out the win against a tough Missouri Valley Conference opponent in Bradley University (3-10-1, 2-6-0).

With this win along with results from other matches in the conference, the Ramblers officially secured a bye in the first round of the MVC Championships. Loyola is still battling with Missouri State for the regular season title and the chance to host the tournament.

Head Coach Neil Jones Thoughts…
"We're really happy we were able to turn things and I'm really proud of how the guys responded in the second half. Our guys really stepped up which resulted in some goals. Our defense was much better in the second half. Overall, we're really happy to get three points against a difficult opponent."

How It Happened…
The Braves set the tone very early in the first half with a goal in the fourth minute of the game. The two teams aggressively fought throughout the remainder of this half, however, no one else scored as Loyola and Bradley headed to the locker room at the half with a score of 1-0 in favor of the visitors.

Once the Ramblers came out for the remaining 45 minutes, there was no stopping them. Just like in the half before, the scoring opened up in the first five minutes, but this time, it was in the Ramblers' favor. Senior Billy Hency recorded the equalizing goal in the 49th minute off a pass from Jakob Bookjans, which sparked the offense for Loyola.

Shortly after Hency's goal, sophomore Julian Cisneros put in a shot off a pass from Oscar Dueso to give Loyola the 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute. As if that wasn't enough to secure the win, Dueso continued with the offensive pressure and scored a goal of his own in the 87th minute off a pass from Hency to seal a 3-1 win for the Ramblers over the Braves.

Looking At The Numbers…
  • Hency's one goal and one assist in tonight's match is the third consecutive game where he contributed to both of those statistical categories. With these performances, he still sits in the No. 1 spot in the MVC rankings for points earned this season with 24.
  • Dueso boasts an impressive 17 points so far this season following his one goal and one assist performance tonight. This puts him right behind Hency in the MVC statistical rankings. With this assist, Dueso has now registered at least one assist in the past three games.
  • Bookjans's assist during tonight's match is the first point he registered in his short career as a Rambler. The freshman also added three shots to the stat sheet to build on the team's offensive pressure.

Up Next…
Loyola will hit the road this Sunday, Oct. 31, as they travel to SIU Edwardsville for this MVC Halloween matchup. Kickoff will be at 2 p.m.
