BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (October 4, 2021) – Senior
Lorenza Martinez turned in the low round of the day for the Loyola University Chicago women's golf team as the Ramblers got off to a fast start at the Courtney Cole Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
The Maroon & Gold posted a team tally of 313 during opening-round play at The Pfau Course (par 72, 6,178 yards), a mark which has the Ramblers three shots in front of third-place Cincinnati (316).
Host Indiana (296) sits atop the team standings, while the Hoosiers' Aine Donegan resides in first place on the individual leaderboard after carding a one-under-par 71.
Martinez finds herself in the thick of the hunt for individual medalist honors heading into Tuesday's final round. The Menomonee Falls, Wis. native recorded her fourth round in the 70s this fall, firing a three-over-par 75 that has her as part of a three-way tie for third place.
Joining Martinez in the top 10 on the leaderboard is sophomore
Abby Thielbar, who is tied for eighth place after handing in a six-over-par 78.
The freshman pairing of
Grace Suter and
Jolie Brochu each posted rounds of 80 to move into a tie for 17
th, while junior
Caroline Dayton is tied for 22
nd following an opening-round 81.
Freshman
Cate Reisinger, who is competing as an individual, fired an 80 of her own to close the day alongside Suter and Brochu in 17
th.
The final round of the Courtney Cole Invitational begins at 7:30 a.m. (CT) on Tuesday morning.
