Loyola Women’s Basketball Welcomes Pair Of In-State Guards To 2021 Recruiting Class

Whitney Dunn, Mallory Ramage to arrive in Rogers Park in fall of 2022

CHICAGO (November 18, 2021) – Loyola University Chicago head women's basketball coach Kate Achter announced the addition of a pair of student-athletes to her 2021 recruiting class on Thursday.  Whitney Dunn (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy) and Mallory Ramage (Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon), both in-state products, have signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Ramblers at the start of the 2022-23 academic year.

"We are very excited to announce Mallory and Whitney as part of our 2021 recruiting class," Achter said.  "They bring us size, skill and competitiveness.  Mal and Whit will be wonderful additions to our experienced roster and the Loyola campus community."

WHITNEY DUNN
5-9 • Guard
Chicago, Ill. • Kenwood Academy

Making her way to Rogers Park from Kenwood Academy, Whitney Dunn has averaged 18.0 points and 4.0 rebounds en route to earning back-to-back Second Team All-State nods from the Associated Press.  A 5-foot-9 guard, Dunn helped lead head coach Andre Lewis' Broncos to a Chicago Public League (CPL) title as part of a perfect 13-0 campaign in 2020-21, highlighted by a come-from-behind win over defending 3A state champion Simeon in which she poured in 26 points and dished out five assists.  Dunn also appears on the club level for Chicago Hoops Express under the direction of coach Jerald Davis.

Achter on Dunn: "Whitney is a very dynamic guard with a strong ability to get to the basket.  Not only can she finish with contact, but she has a knack for getting to the free throw line.  Defensively, she is active and physical but most importantly, she knows how to make winning plays.  Whit is comfortable with the ball in her hands when it matters most."

Dunn on Loyola: "I chose Loyola because it was the best fit for me.  I love the environment and resources it provides, especially for student-athletes.  It feels like home."

MALLORY RAMAGE
5-10 • Guard
Mattoon, Ill. • Mattoon

Arriving at Loyola from downstate Mattoon, Ill., Mallory Ramage has been a force at both ends of the floor during her time at Mattoon High School with head coach Amanda Aydt.  A three-time First Team All-Apollo Conference honoree, Ramage, who helped the Green Wave to a conference title as a sophomore, is coming off a junior season in which she averaged 23.4 points and 7.3 rebounds, both career-best marks, as she broke the Green Wave's single-season scoring record with 708 total points.  Ramage has also experienced success with coach Dan Gates' Indiana Elite Havoc, with whom she was a member of a Shamrock Classic championship team.

Achter on Ramage: "Mallory is like a swiss army knife.  She brings a lot of intangibles to the table.  Mallory is able to score from all three levels, but one of her best skills is making everyone around her better.  Rambler fans will love her effort on the boards and her effort towards 50/50 balls."

Ramage on Loyola: "I chose Loyola because I had a great connection with the coaches and players.  I like the size of the campus and feel like this is the perfect place to grow not only as a player, but as a person."

Currently sitting at 1-2 on the young 2021-22 season, Loyola hosts Chicago State at 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 20 to begin a three-game homestand.
