Ramblers shoot 55 percent from the field to earn their 28th consecutive win at home

CHICAGO (December 7, 2021)

In Short
Four players scored in double digits and Loyola University Chicago (8-2) shot 55 percent (33-for-60) from the field to roll past Roosevelt (7-4), 88-49, tonight at Gentile Arena for its 28th consecutive victory on its home floor. The Ramblers won their fourth straight contest overall and the 16thconsecutive game versus non-NCAA Division I foes.

Coach Valentine's Thoughts
"We had two really good practices coming into tonight, and I don't know if it was the lineup changes that shook us up a bit or what, but we were just off to start the game. I thought we ramped it up in the second half, especially on the defensive end, and it was good to see so many guys get some playing time and experience."

How It Happened
Playing without the services of two regulars in the starting lineup, Loyola got off to a bit of a sluggish start, but still was able to assemble a 13-4 run to snap an early tie and open up a 15-6 lead. Three-pointers from Marquise Kennedy, Keith Clemons and a buzzer-beating triples from Ryan Schwieger were part of the Ramblers' 20-7 run that closed the period and extended their lead to 44-24 at the break.

Loyola put the game out of reach early in the second period, scoring 10 unanswered points, capped by a three from Saint Thomas, as its lead ballooned to 60-28. The Ramblers were able to get quality minutes for several reserves down the stretch in the second half, including production from freshmen Saint Thomas (9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals) and Ty Johnson (7 points, 4 rebounds).

A Look at the Numbers
  • Loyola recorded assists on 22 of its 33 field goals for the night and also drained 47.6 percent (10-for-21) of its three-point attempts as it sank double-digit treys for the fifth time this season.
  • Schwieger led the way for the Ramblers by dropping in a team-best 15 points off the bench, hitting 6 of 7 shots from the field, including all three of his shots from three-point range.
  • Tate Hall performed well in his first start of the season, providing 14 points, three rebounds, five assists and five steals and Jacob Hutson accounted for 11 points.
  • Rounding out the crop of double-figure scorers for Loyola was Chris Knight, who tallied 10 points and six caroms as he scored in double digits for the third straight outing.
  • Nine of the ten Ramblers to score recorded six or more points.
  • Lucas Williamson finished with seven points and now needs two points to reach 1,000 for his career.
