Coach Valentine's Thoughts
"We had two really good practices coming into tonight, and I don't know if it was the lineup changes that shook us up a bit or what, but we were just off to start the game. I thought we ramped it up in the second half, especially on the defensive end, and it was good to see so many guys get some playing time and experience."
Â
How It Happened
Playing without the services of two regulars in the starting lineup, Loyola got off to a bit of a sluggish start, but still was able to assemble a 13-4 run to snap an early tie and open up a 15-6 lead. Three-pointers from
Marquise Kennedy,
Keith Clemons and a buzzer-beating triples from
Ryan Schwieger were part of the Ramblers' 20-7 run that closed the period and extended their lead to 44-24 at the break.
Â
Loyola put the game out of reach early in the second period, scoring 10 unanswered points, capped by a three from
Saint Thomas, as its lead ballooned to 60-28. The Ramblers were able to get quality minutes for several reserves down the stretch in the second half, including production from freshmen
Saint Thomas (9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals) and
Ty Johnson (7 points, 4 rebounds).
Â
A Look at the Numbers
