Saint Louis Walks Off With 11-9 Victory Over Loyola

Allyson Ivey tallies two hits and a pair of RBI to pace Ramblers

ST. LOUIS (March 14, 2021)

In Short
Host Saint Louis (5-8) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out an 11-9 victory over Loyola University Chicago (4-11) Sunday afternoon to close out play at the Billiken Spring Tournament. The Ramblers have now lost six games this season in their opponents' final at-bat.

How It Happened
Allyson Ivey, who has been locked in at the plate, got the Ramblers going by leading off the game with a double to left and later scored on a wild pitch to put Loyola on top, 1-0.

However, Saint Louis answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the first and added another in the second for a 3-1 lead. Loyola countered with two runs of its own in the top of the third on a RBI single off the bat of Tori Boysen, and Amelia Thomas would scurry home on a throwing error by Billikens catcher Alyssa Chavez to knot the score.

Loyola moved ahead with a run in its half of the fifth, but SLU reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the frame, plating two runs before the Ramblers hung four runs on the board in their half of the sixth, to seize an 8-5 advantage.

The big hit in Loyola's sixth inning was a two-run double by Ivey and one batter later, Madison Ebeling singled to bring in Ivey. Loyola failed to keep the Billikens off the board in their half of the sixth, allowing Saint Louis to tie the game on a two-run triple by Chavez, which was immediately followed by a Kayla Swiderski RBI single.

Loyola showed its resiliency, bouncing back in the top of the seventh when Thomas led off with a single up the middle and two outs later came home on Nova Sinskul's RBI double down the right field line to put Loyola ahead, 9-8. But, first baseman Sadie Wise hammered a three-run homer down the right field line with one out in the bottom of the seventh to give the Billikens the walk-off win.

A Look at the Numbers
  • Eight of Loyola's nine starters tallied at least one hit on the day, with Ivey, Abbey Jacobsen and Katie Polaski registering two hits apiece.
  • Ivey finished the Billiken Spring Tournament with eight RBI in four games and totaled nine hits over two days.
  • Chavez, Swiderski and Wise drove in three runs apiece of Saint Louis.
