EVANSVILLE, Ind. (March 20, 2021)Â
In Short
Host Evansville (12-7, 1-1 MVC) scored seven runs in the fourth inning to earn a 7-3 victory over Loyola University Chicago (5-12, 1-1 MVC) in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Cooper Stadium Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Sydney Barnett had a big day for the Ramblers, homering and driving in two runs.
How it Happened
Barnett got the scoring underway in the top of the fourth inning in an early pitcher's duel, mashing her first career home run, a solo blast, to put the Ramblers on the board.
That lead wouldn't hold up for long however, as Haley Woolf's two-run roundtripper in the bottom half of the inning put the Purple Aces on top for good., and following a RBI single off the bat of Lindsay Renneisen, Eryn Gould clubbed a grand slam to conclude the scoring in Evansville's big inning.Â
Loyola would make a dent in the deficit in the top of the sixth, trimming the gap to 7-3 on Barnett's run-scoring double that plated
Madison Ebeling, and
Abbey Jacobsen's RBI groundout, but that was the extent of the damage the Ramblers could inflict.
A Look at the Numbers
- Eryn Gould led Evansville with a pair of hits and four RBI.
- Barnett drove in two runs, and whacked her first collegiate home run in a two-hit performance.
Up Next
Loyola and Evansville finish out the three-game series with a single contest tomorrow at 11 a.m. CT.
