RALEIGH, N.C. (March 27, 2021) – Seniors
Demetri Panici and
Riley DeMeulenaere both saw action as the Loyola University Chicago track & field teams wrapped up their stay at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. this afternoon.
Â
Competing in the 800m run, Panici, who clocked a 1,500m run personal best on Thursday, came through at 1:52.46 to finish 33
rd overall. That time currently has the Tinley Park, Ill. native ranked third on the Missouri Valley Conference leaderboard in the event.
Â
"Demetri ran another very solid race," Loyola assistant coach
Mircea Bogdan said. "He shows great consistency every time he toes the line. That is a sign of lots of room to grow as the season goes on and for him to be able to peak when it matters."
Â
DeMeulenaere saw action in the 3,000m steeplechase, the same event he qualified for the 2019 NCAA West Preliminary in. The Brookfield, Wis. product clocked a time of 9:27.76 to land 23
rd.
Â
"Riley came into this meet very confident, but did not have the best luck," Bogdan added. "He fell pretty badly at the second water jump and that threw his entire race off, which kept him from ever getting into a rhythm. It's a shame because training has been very good for him. He has to put this one behind, learn from it, and focus on what is ahead."
Â
Loyola heads down Interstate 55 next weekend for the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Ill., April 2-3.
