In Short
Visiting Southern Illinois (26-6, 8-3 MVC) completed a three-game sweep of Loyola University Chicago (5-19, 1-7 MVC) with a 3-0 victory at Loyola Softball Park this afternoon. The Ramblers have faltered in their last eight contests.
Â
How It Happened
The Salukis got all of the offense they would need in the third inning on Jenny Jansen's two-out, two-run double to center field for a 2-0 advantage. Southern Illinois right-hander Madi Eberle held Loyola without a hit until
Nova Sinskul led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single to center but Loyola was unable to come up with a run.
Â
SIU tacked on an insurance run in the sixth on Bailey Caylor's RBI single and the Ramblers threatened in both the sixth and seventh innings, with
Jocelyn Currie doubling with one down in the seventh, but Eberle wiggled out of the jam to give Southern Illinois a 3-0 win.
Â
A Look at the Numbers
- Currie and Sinskul tallied hits for Loyola, which managed only three hits off Eberle.
- Sydney Ruggles struck out six and scattered in a complete-game performance.
