Krutwig Named CoSIDA Academic All-District 5

Senior center will now appear on national ballot for Academic All-America honors

CHICAGO (May 6, 2021) – Cameron Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) added to his impressive haul of awards this season by earning CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District 5 recognition, it was announced today. This is the second straight year the 6-foot-9 senior center has garnered CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District 5 honors and he will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in late May.

One of Loyola's all-time greats, Krutwig finished his collegiate career in March as the only player in Loyola University Chicago history to rank among the school's all-time top ten in points (1,833), rebounds (944) and assists (373). A three-time First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection, the big man became the third Rambler in the last four years to capture MVC Player of the Year honors in 2020-21 and also was selected Associated Press Third Team All-America.

In helping Loyola to another remarkable season, which included a 26-5 overall record, Missouri Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships and a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance, Krutwig contributed 15.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.1 steals per contest.

Off the floor, Krutwig has embodied the term "student-athlete." Named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2021, he has been a member of the MVC Honor Roll, is a three-time MVC Scholar-Athlete Team selection and has also twice been named to the I-AAA Scholar-Athlete Team.

An entrepreneurship major, who sports a 3.45 grade-point average, Krutwig gives Loyola a CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 pick for the fourth straight season. Krutwig earned the honor last season and his former teammate, Clayton Custer, who was a Third Team Academic All-American in 2018-19, earned CoSIDA Academic All-District status in both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 campaigns.

Joining Krutwig on the CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 First Team was Joey Hauser (Michigan State), Loren Cristian Jackson (Akron), Ben Krikke (Valparaiso), Ben Vander Plas (Ohio) and Franz Wagner (Michigan).
