CHICAGO (May 8, 2021)
Â
In Short
Allyson Ivey had two hits and drove in a pair of runs as Loyola University Chicago (12-28, 8-16 MVC) picked up a 4-1 victory over Indiana State (19-27, 12-15 MVC) this afternoon at Loyola Softball Park in the regular-season finale for both teams. Ivey, a senior first baseman, established the Loyola career record for runs batted in, moving past the former record holder, Lauren Moore (124), with her 125
th RBI as a Rambler.
Â
How It Happened
On Senior Day, Ivey put the Ramblers ahead in the bottom of the first inning when she punched a double down the left field line to score
Nova Sinskul, who had reached on a one-out single and moved into scoring position thanks to a passed ball. That run batted in allowed Ivey to tie Lauren Moore's Loyola career record with 124 RBI.
Â
Indiana State, which left nine runners on base on the afternoon, fought back to tie the game in the top of the third inning on Lexie Siwek's run-scoring double to left, but the Ramblers would grab momentum right back in the bottom half of the frame, plating a pair of runs to reclaim the lead for good.
Â
Loyola scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the third when
Madison Ebeling scooted home on a Sycamores throwing error and Ivey would later deliver a run-scoring single to bring in Sinskul and give the slugging first baseman sole possession of the Loyola all-time RBI record with 125.
Â
The Ramblers tacked on an insurance run in the fifth when
Amelia Thomas slapped a RBI single to right field to score Sinskul for the third time on the day.Â
Â
Senior left-hander
Madison Veres, in her final appearance as a Rambler at Loyola Softball Park, entered the game to start the sixth inning and tossed 2.0 innings of scoreless ball to earn her first save of the year and give Loyola its third series win in Missouri Valley Conference play this spring.
Â
A Look at the Numbers
- Sinskul went 2-for-2 and scored three times, while Ivey tallied a pair of hits and knocked in two runs for Loyola, which won its second straight game.
- Senior Caitlin Engelking singled in two plate appearances and junior Sydney Ruggles earned the win by tossing 5.0 innings and striking out five Sycamores.
- Kennedy Shade went 3-for-3 for Indiana State.
