EUGENE, Ore. (June 10, 2021) – Loyola University Chicago junior Ilhame Tamrouti brought her 2021 season to an end this evening in the javelin final at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
 
"It didn't quite come together today, but to finish as an Honorable Mention All-American is no small feat," Loyola head track & field coach Bob Thurnhoffer commented.  "What a remarkable season for Ilhame and quite the step forward into elite territory.  She's now won multiple MVC titles, set and reset her school record, made the regional meet in both attempts, and now made the pinnacle of our sport by qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Eugene.  It's such a hard meet to make.  In many other sports, all it takes is to win conference to advance on to nationals.  In track, you have to be ranked among the best in the country to qualify for the regional and to make it to Eugene, you have to finish amongst the best of the best at regionals.  It was quite the performance and season for her."
 
Out of Kampen, Netherlands, Tamrouti posted a top toss of 155-01 (47.27m) at historic Hayward Field, placing 23^rd overall.
 
"I couldn't be prouder of Ilhame's growth, leadership on the team, and how she represents the program," Thurnhoffer concluded.  "She's the definition of always 'finding a way' to get better and making the best of any circumstance.  I'm excited to see what the future holds for her."
 
Tonight's showing closes out a terrific outdoor campaign for Tamrouti.  The junior, who made her debut on the national stage this evening, captured her second straight Missouri Valley Conference javelin title at the MVC Outdoor Championships before besting her own school record in the event with a throw of 166-06 (50.74m) at the NCAA West Preliminary, becoming only the second female field athlete in program history to qualify for the national meet.
