CHICAGO (October 1, 2022)Â
Â
In ShortÂ
Bree Borum just missed out on recording a triple-double and
Karlie McNabb posted a match-high 13 kills to lead Loyola University Chicago (10-7, 4-0 A-10) to its fourth consecutive win, a 25-19, 25-20, 25-23 sweep of Fordham (6-9, 0-4 A-10) this afternoon at Gentile Arena. Dating back to last season, when they were members of the Missouri Valley Conference, the Ramblers have prevailed in 18 of their last 22 league matches.
Â
How It Happened
Loyola led from start to finish and held off a late Rams rally in a 25-19 decision in set one. Already in possession of an 11-8 advantage, the Ramblers spun off seven unanswered points as Borum and McNabb collected a pair of kills each during that stretch, to extend the lead to 18-8. Fordham came charging back behind an 11-3 run that cut the gap to 21-19, but
Anna Feldkamp picked up a pair of kills, including the set clincher, and added a block as Loyola scored the final four tallies to stave off the Rams' rally.
Â
The Ramblers hit .342 (16-3-38) in a 25-20 victory in the second set and once again had to fend off the Rams late. After turning away three Fordham attacks as it bolted to a 10-3 lead, Loyola's edge nearly slipped away as the Rams crept within a point, at 16-15. Kills from
Emily Banitt, Borum and
Sarah Murczek provided a bit of breathing room as the Loyola advantage increased to 19-15 and from there, Fordham never got closer than three points.
Â
Neither team held a lead of more than three points in the third set and it was a string of three consecutive tallies, two coming on Fordham errors and the other on McNabb's final kill of the day, that moved Loyola ahead for good, at 22-19. The Rams got within a point on three occasions down the stretch, but Banitt closed out the sweep with her sixth kill of the afternoon to seal a 25-23 Loyola victory.
