Ramblers Play to 1-1 Draw Against Rhode Island on Senior Day

CHICAGO (October 22, 2022)

In Short
Senior midfielder Billy Hency scored his sixth goal as Loyola University Chicago (6-2-6, 2-2-3 A-10) played to a 1-1 draw against Rhode Island (6-1-7, 2-1-4 A-10) in Saturday's regular season home finale at Loyola Soccer Park. Hency now leads the Atlantic 10 Conference in points (19) with six goals and seven assists. With the result, Loyola finished the regular season unbeaten at home (6-0-3) and remains in a fifth-place tie in the league standings with George Washington.

How It Happened
Loyola grabbed the 1-0 lead on Hency's goal in the 16th minute as the Ramblers controlled much of the action early on, holding Rhode Island without a shot attempt until the second half. Hency's strike came from the top right corner of the box, as he possessed a pass from Alex Moskal and Julian Cisneros, and placed the successful shot attempt to the far side of the net.

Loyola missed on a few opportunities to extend its lead in the first half, including a pair of flags for offsides which were both high probability scoring chances for the Ramblers. Another chance came when John Gates had a nice look on goal with a shot attempt in the 29th minute.

The Ramblers would take the lead into halftime and remained out in front until the Rams found the equalizer late in the match. Rhode Island's Patrick Agyemang scored on a close-range shot in the 76th minute – which was the only shot on target all night for the Rams.

Both teams settled in defensively over the final 10 minutes as neither side was able to put a solid foot on another attempt. Loyola had a couple of decent cross passes but couldn't connect in the box.

The Ramblers celebrated their seven seniors prior to the match, including Simon Jillson, Andrew Mitchell, Billy Hency, Alex Alfaro, Alex Moskal, Fabian Becerra and Sean Knobloch.
