CHICAGO (November 15, 2022) – Loyola University Chicago continued its tradition of outstanding work in the classroom, scoring high marks in the latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data that was released on Tuesday by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). After posting a score of 96 a year ago, the Ramblers tallied a GSR mark of 97 percent this year, tying with Evansville for the top spot among Missouri Valley Conference institutions and ranking second for NCAA Division I schools in the state of Illinois.
Six of the Maroon & Gold's 15 programs recorded perfect scores: men's golf, men's cross country/track and field, women's cross country/track and field, women's golf, women's volleyball, and softball.
Loyola student-athletes enjoyed another banner year both in competition and in the classroom during the 2021-22 academic year. The Ramblers won Missouri Valley Conference championships in women's cross country, women's soccer, women's volleyball, and men's basketball, with both women's soccer and men's basketball advancing on to the NCAA Tournament. Chantz Visse (men's cross country/track & field) was tabbed as an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), while 174 Loyola student-athletes appeared on the MVC Honor Roll in 2021-22.
Developed to more accurately assess the long-term academic success of student-athletes, the GSR holds institutions accountable for transfer students, unlike the federal graduation rate. The GSR also accounts for midyear enrollees and is calculated for every sport. Under the calculation, institutions are not penalized for outgoing transfer students who leave in good academic standing. The outgoing transfers are included in the receiving institution's cohort.
The most recent Division I Graduation Success Rates are based on the four entering classes from 2012-15. The NCAA began compiling these figures with the entering freshman class of 1995.
