Loyola/Texas A&M – The Series
Loyola and Texas A&M are set to clash for the third time in Sunday's seventh-place game. The Aggies prevailed in both of the previous meetings, picking up a 70-69 victory on December 28, 1979 before dealing the Ramblers a 64-61 setback on December 27, 1989.
Sunday's matchup will mark Loyola's first meeting with a current Southeastern Conference member since it defeated Vanderbilt, 69-58, on December 10, 2021. The victory was the Maroon & Gold's sixth win in its last eight meetings with an SEC foe.
Scouting Texas A&M
Like Loyola, Texas A&M, which entered the week at No. 24 in the Associated Press Top 25, sits at 2-2 after dropping contests to Murray State, 88-79, and Colorado, 103-75, to begin the Myrtle Beach Invitational. Now in his fourth season in charge in College Station, Texas, head coach Buzz Williams welcomes back four starters and eight letterwinners from a 2021-22 season in which Texas A&M finished 27-13 (9-9 SEC) and advanced to the championship game of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
Leading the way early on this season for the Aggies has been guard Taylor Wade, who averages a team-high 15.3 ppg. Wade poured in a season-best 21 points in the Texas A&M's 77-58 win over Abilene Christian on November 11. Henry Coleman III has been a force on the glass, ripping down 6.3 rpg to go along with 7.8 ppg.
