OXFORD, Ohio (November 28, 2022)
Â
In Short…
Loyola University Chicago (2-5) couldn't overcome a slow start and cold shooting from three-point range in the program's first trip to Oxford, Ohio, falling 79-53 to Miami (OH) (2-4) Monday evening inside Millett Hall.
Sitori Tanin led the Ramblers with 13 points and eight rebounds while
Maya Chandler also reached double digits with 11 points.
Â
How It Happened
After a quick start, Loyola jumped ahead on a made 3-pointer by
Sophia Nolan at the 6:30 mark in the first quarter but that would end up as the only lead of the night for the Maroon & Gold.
Â
Miami responded with a 6-0 run and went up 18-9, forcing a Ramblers timeout after seven early Loyola turnovers at 2:43 in the first period. Then, Loyola went cold from the field and was held scoreless until
Sitori Tanin's floating jumper at 5:43 in the second quarter. The Ramblers would end up trailing by 17 at halftime, 35-18, after shooting under 30% during the first half and scoring just seven points in the second period. Miami rode the hot hand of Ivy Wolf, who scored 16 of her 27 points in the opening half, as the RedHawks combined to shoot 5 for 11 (46%) from beyond the arc.
Â
After the break,
Maya Chandler's conventional three-point play got momentum going for the Ramblers near the seven-minute mark. However, Loyola couldn't overcome another hot-shooting performance by Miami in the third stanza. The RedHawks made 8 of their first 11 shot attempts as the deficit grew to as much as 27 and forced another Loyola timeout at 2:37 in the third.
Â
Moving to the fourth, the Ramblers recorded their best defensive effort while holding the RedHawks without a made field goal during a span of five-plus minutes. Loyola would end up shooting over 56% in the final stanza with Tanin scoring eight of her team-best 13 points in the period.
