Loyola Opens A-10 Play at Saint Louis Wednesday

Ramblers and Billikens to meet for first time since 2003-04

CHICAGO (December 27, 2022) – The Loyola University Chicago women's basketball team (5-8) will open conference play Wednesday night at Saint Louis (4-11) in the program's first league game in the Atlantic 10. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT at Chaifetz Arena and the game will air live on ESPN+.

Last Time Out
Loyola closed non-conference play with back-to-back wins at the UCF Christmas Classic, led by career-high scoring efforts from Anna Brown and Sam Galanopoulos. Brown drained five 3-pointers and recorded 19 points in Loyola's 26-point win (72-46) over Elon. Galanopoulos scored 18 points in the Ramblers' 56-44 victory over Idaho State, which marked the fewest points allowed to an opponent this season by the Ramblers.

Series Stuff
Wednesday's game will mark the first meeting between the two programs since the 2003-04 season. Loyola leads the all-time series against Saint Louis, 12-6, after winning the first 12 matchups before the Billikens claimed the six most recent meetings. Loyola's last victory came in the 1990-91 season when the two programs were Midwestern City Conference (Horizon League) rivals. The Ramblers are 6-3 on the road against the Billikens.

Scouting Saint Louis
Saint Louis enters the contest with a 4-11 record, following an 82-54 victory over Southern Illinois to close out nonconference action. The Billikens recorded their second-highest scoring output of the season with six players posting double-digit points. Brooke Flowers and Julia Martinez collected double-doubles in the win over the Salukis. Flowers is the NCAA's leader with 63 blocks, which is already the sixth most in a single season by a Billiken. Kyla McMakin ranks 10th among active career players in the NCAA with 1,891 points. Martinez ranks second in the NCAA with 46 steals.

Up Next
Loyola returns to Gentile Arena next week with a pair of conference home games against Richmond (Weds., Jan. 4) and UMass (Sat., Jan. 7).
