Ben Schwieger (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday. Schwieger is the first Rambler to earn weekly honors from the A-10 this season.
A 6-foot-7 guard/forward, Schwieger, who averaged 17.0 points across Loyola's two games last week, was dominant in last Wednesday's 85-70 victory over Central Arkansas. The Aurora, Ill. native erupted for a career-high 26 points (9-16 FGs, 6-7 3FGs, 2-4 FTs), hitting on six triples, in addition to adding five rebounds, an assist, a block, and two steals in a resounding win. He chipped in eight points (3-7 FGs, 1-3 3FGs, 1-2 FTs), two rebounds, three assists, and a steal on Saturday against city rival DePaul.
Since being inserted into the starting lineup prior to Loyola's matchup with Harvard on November 25, Schwieger is averaging 14.3 points while operating at a 48.4 percent clip (15-for-31) from the field.
Loyola returns to action on Tuesday, December 6 when it hosts Green Bay in a 7 p.m. tip-off that will be televised locally on NBC Sports Chicago+.
