Ramblers Welcome Former Conference Foe Green Bay Tuesday

Loyola, Green Bay to meet for first time as non-conference opponents

CHICAGO (December 5, 2022) - Loyola University Chicago (3-5) hopes to secure a winning homestand on Tuesday evening when it welcomes a familiar foe to Gentile Arena as former Horizon League rival Green Bay makes its way to Rogers Park.  Tip-off between the Ramblers and Phoenix is slated for 7 p.m.

Last Time Out
Loyola and DePaul played an instant classic on Saturday afternoon before a sold-out crowd of 4,557 inside Gentile Arena, with the Blue Demons ultimately escaping Rogers Park with a 78-72 overtime victory.  Marquise Kennedy poured in a career-high 26 points to lead Loyola, while Tom Welch (13 points) and Braden Norris (11 points) also reached double figures in scoring for the Maroon & Gold.

Loyola/Green Bay – The Series
Loyola and Green Bay will meet for the 42nd time on Tuesday evening, but the homestand finale will mark the first time the two teams will clash in a non-conference matchup.  The Phoenix hold a 26-15 lead (.634) in the all-time series, with all 41 previous encounters coming following Green Bay's move the Horizon League prior to the start of the 1994-95 academic year.

Since departing the Horizon League following the 2012-13 season, Loyola holds a 12-2 record (.857) against members of the conference it called home from 1979 through 2013.

Scouting Green Bay
Green Bay picked up a 68-61 win over IUPUI on Monday afternoon at the Resch Center to improve to 1-7 overall (1-1 Horizon) and snap a season-opening seven-game skid.

Under the direction of third-year head coach Will Ryan, son of former Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan, the Phoenix were picked 11th in the Horizon League Preseason Poll.

Zae Blake has stepped up to lead Green Bay early on this season, scoring in double figures in four contests en route to averaging 11.3 points per game.  Blake put up a season-best 20 points in the Phoenix's victory over IUPUI on Monday afternoon. A transfer out of Southwest Mississippi Community College, Blake, who operates at a sizzling 62.8 percent mark (27-for-43) from the field, also leads the Phoenix in assists (2.0 apg) and steals (1.7 spg).

Up Next
Loyola heads south to Atlanta, Ga. to take on Clemson as part of Holiday Hoopsgiving on Saturday, December 10.  Tip-off from inside State Farm Arena is set for 6:30 p.m. in a game that will be televised on the ACC Network.
