Lucas Williamson Named MVC Player Of The Week

Graduate student was dominant at both ends of the floor in Loyola’s wins last week

CHICAGO (February 7, 2022) – Following a dominant week at both ends of the floor, Loyola University Chicago graduate student Lucas Williamson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) has been selected as the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week it was announced today by the league office. This is the first time in his career that the 6-foot-4 guard has earned the award.

Williamson continued his excellent play, helping Loyola to a pair of wins last week by putting up 23.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game, while converting 63 percent (17-for-27) of his field goal attempts and 64.3 percent (9-for-14) of his three-point tries.

In the Ramblers' 78-64 victory over Illinois State on February 2, the graduate student erupted for a career-high 27 points and added three assists, two steals, a rebound and a block, while hitting 10 of 15 shots from the field, including 6 of 9 attempts from beyond the arc. The 27 points were the most by a Rambler since Keith Clemons tallied 28 against Valparaiso on March 6, 2020.

He followed that up with 19 points, four boards, five assists and a steal in Loyola's 71-62 victory at Missouri State on February 6 that kept the Ramblers atop The Valley standings. In addition to his offensive output against the Bears, Williamson played a huge part in limiting the league's leading scorer, Isiaih Mosley, to just 12 points on 4 of 14 shooting.

Last week, he became only the third player in Loyola men's basketball history to sink 200 career three-point field goals and he already is one of only 23 players in program annals with at least 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. Williamson has been selected to the 10-person national watch list for the 2022 Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award.

Williamson is a candidate for MVC Player of the Year honors and is tallying 16.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.3 apg and 1.3 spg, while shooting 48.7 percent (56-for-115) from the field and 48.5 percent (33-for-68) from three-point land, in Valley play. Overall, he is delivering 13.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 2.6 apg and 1.2 spg.

Loyola (18-4, 9-2 MVC) has won four of its last five contests and visits Bradley Wednesday night (Feb. 9) at 8 p.m. CT in a game that will be televised live on CBS Sports Network.
