MURRAY, Ky. (March 10, 2022) – The Loyola University Chicago softball team is back in action today at the Racer Classic. They will compete today, Thursday, and tomorrow with all three of these games being against the Murray State Racers.
LAST TIME OUT
The Ramblers were to Tucson, Arizona, to take on No. 9 Arizona, RV Iowa State, Texas State, Boise State and North Dakota. Over the course of this weekend, Loyola went 1-4 as they finished the weekend with a win over the Fighting Hawks of North Dakota.
FACING THE RACERS
Murray State is currently 10-7 in the season, grabbing wins against fellow foe Mercer, Ball State, Western Illinois, Toledo, UAB and Middle Tennessee. Most recently, they are on a two-game losing streak from Northwestern and Northern Kentucky.
The Racers have one of the best ERA's in the country. They are 14th in the NCAA with a 1.53. Along with that, there are multiple players ranked highly in the NCAA individual statistical categories. Sierra Gilmore is the highest-ranked player for the Racers as she is fifth in the nation in sacrifice flies with three. There are also two other players in the top 20, and they are Logan Braundmeier and Hannah James. Braundmeier is 15th in doubles with eight and 17th in doubles per game with .47 while James is 15th in shutouts with three.
When looking at the team's statistics, Braundmeier has the highest batting average on the team with a .400. In her 55 at bats, she had 22 hits with eight doubles and three home runs. She also has the most RBI's on the team with 15.
On the mound, the Racers have a phenomenal pitching staff. Between James and their other starting pitcher, Jenna Veber, have low ERA's with a 1.36 and 1.63, respectively.

The Ramblers will be in Murray, Kentucky, playing these games three games against the Racers. Today's games will be at 2 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. while tomorrow's game will be at noon. All of the games will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will also be available.
